Seventh annual Honoring Our Heroes event on Sept. 18th - by Nancy Reno

2018 Honoring Our Heroes event attendees

On September 18th IREM members will join Boston’s Business Community to once again show support and raise funds for the Boston Police Foundation.

What started out as a grass roots effort to show support and gratitude to the first responders for the work they did following the Boston Marathon bombing, and for the role they play in keeping all citizens and their property safe every day has blossomed into an annual gathering of real estate professionals, friends, neighbors and business owners.

IREM’s goal for the evening has always been the same “When Boston needs help, members of the Boston Police Department respond heroically and without hesitation. We want to give back to those who play a key role in keeping all citizens and our properties safe every day and who are always there for us”.

The event which spotlights “real life heroes” while raising funds for the Boston Police Foundation has established several Distinguished Service Awards, which serve to honor prominent individuals in the department and community including award recipients; former Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis, Boston Marathon bombing survivor and author Roseann Sdoia, superintendent Nora Baston, Carl Barron Cambridge businessman a  staunch lifelong supporter of first responders, Mike Boston creator of Mobil Stu, and Mass Housing Thaddeus Miles, director of Community Services at Mass Housing.

This year we are pleased to honor the Boston Police Department Peer Support Unit. The unit has one goal, to provide mental health services, help and care for members of the Boston Police Department. The stresses of the job are undeniable and the Peer Support Unit is there to help and support 24/7. They do an amazing job and the department wouldn’t be what it is today without them. The foundation is dedicated to providing any and all mental health services they  can and it all starts with the Peer Support Unit.

The level of collaboration and support has been incredible at all levels, all sizes and types of companies and organizations. The speed in which the membership of IREM has responded is incredible impressive. The event is a successful collaboration and includes a wealth of IREM members volunteering their time to make this a tremendous success. A gigantic thank you to all of the Friends of IREM and our leadership for helping make this happen year after year.

The men and women of the Boston Police Department put themselves in harm’s way so our collective community can be safer. On September 18th, we invite everyone in real estate-related businesses to come together as one to tell these real life heroes ‘Thank You.’

There are several ways to contribute and/or participate. Besides buying tickets, sponsorships range from $500 to $5,000. People can attend, bring friends and colleagues, and /or donate directly to the Boston Police Foundation which funds special equipment, advanced training, officer safety  and new technology not covered in the department’s annual budget. Recently passed legislation creates opportunities to meet CT’s changing energy needs - by Klein and Feinn

For decades, New England has had a summer-peaking power system, where the greatest energy use occurs on the hottest and most humid days, due to widespread use of air conditioning. But by the mid-2030s, electrification of the heating sector likely will result in a winter peak that’s higher than the summer peak.
