H.L. Turner Grp. designed 57,000 s/f Medomak Middle School opens

The new high performance Medomak Middle School for the five-town district MSAD #40 opened in the fall of 2008 after many years of planning. The 340 student, 57,000 s/f middle school is the first sustainable facility for the community. Sharing the high school campus, the $13 million project included site improvements benefiting both student populations and citizens. These amenities include a new campus entry, bus loop and parking, tennis courts, running track and athletic fields. Sustainable building design features include a highly efficient building envelope, natural day lighting, displacement ventilation, carbon dioxide monitoring, occupancy sensors, heat recovery and DDC system controls. The project was awarded an additional $119,000 grant from the Efficiency Maine School's Program for its healthy and environmentally responsible design features. Additionally the school has a high school size gymnasium, centrally located library, cafetorium, music, art and tech rooms as well as support space.
