On February 19, CT DEEP published its finalized Comprehensive Energy Strategy for CT. The Strategy focuses on five different aspects of energy generation and management, including energy efficiency, industrial energy needs, electricity supply including renewable power, natural gas, and transportation.
As recommended by Gov. Malloy, the state will move to increase the number of residents who rely on natural gas, rather than electricity, for power. The governor would like to add 300,000 Conn. residents to the list of those using natural gas as an energy source, particularly in the western portion of our state. This will require 90 miles of gas mains to be built. There will also be a shift to expand mass transit options, such as the Busway from Hartford to New Britain, Fastrack Trains from New Haven to Springfield, and the use of cleaner fuels.
