Ribbon-cutting of renovated commercial building hosted
by City Realty Group at 1515 Hancock Street

Quincy, MA City Realty Group (CRG) hosted a ribbon-cutting and led tours of its renovated commercial building at 1515 Hancock St., in Quincy Center. CRG acquired the 132,000 s/f, class A office building in 2021. Since then, CRG has performed renovations and improvements, including a revitalized lobby with stadium seating and spacious common areas for tenants and visitors. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by mayor Thomas Koch, Quincy Chamber of Commerce president and executive director Tim Cahill, and several building tenants. The event was catered by new tenant Magic Bowl, which is known for its high-quality superfood acai bowls.

“We came in and did an extensive renovation to frame the building into a more modern context. That led to our tenants being very appreciative and new tenants starting coming to us, and we started to sign-up a lot of new leases,” said CRG managing partner Stephen Whalen. “We’re no longer 50% vacant. We are getting to the point where we feel we will be 100% full in the next nine months. That’s not the story for a lot of these types of buildings in Massachusetts or the United States right now.”

Anchored by long-term tenants such as the Social Security Administration, and MassHire Quincy Career Center, the building at 1515 Hancock St. has been a fixture of the city’s commercial district for decades. CRG intends to make this building a cornerstone of the revitalization of Quincy Center.

“Stephen and the City Realty Group have a great vision for this building, and I welcome the investment and reinvestment in Quincy Center,” mayor Koch said. “We moved into a difficult period in Quincy Center for a long time, but through the investment by Stephen and so many others around him, Quincy Center is back. It’s back in a robust way and a different way. Quincy Center is an active, vibrant downtown once again. Downtown, particularly for Quincy, really is the heart of the city. Families now come downtown and enjoy eating, walking, and feeling good with nice looking buildings, clean open space, and lovely parks to enjoy. I thank City Realty Group for believing in Quincy and hopefully we’ll have some more projects to work on together.”

Hancock Center (1515 Hancock St.) is a 4-story atrium building featuring street frontage on 3 sides, providing views, ample natural light throughout and outdoor patio space to select offices. City Realty Group was honored to host Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch, Quincy Chamber of Commerce President & Executive Director Tim Cahill, and others, and provide a tour of this iconic building which will continue to serve as a cornerstone of the amazing evolution of Quincy Center.

Quincy Chamber of Commerce President & Executive Director Tim Cahill explained that the new and preexisting tenants will have a lot to look forward to in Quincy’s downtown. 

“It’s vital for us in the business community to have some commercial office space to get more people downtown,” said Cahill. “Hopefully we’ll open-up some more lunch places now that there’s people coming back to work. These types of eateries in commercial spaces are more important than ever. We just got approval for our beer garden, which will be across the street on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, starting May 18th. The farmers market will also be back in the same spot in June. We’re excited that this building has been modernized and will be a source of pride in the heart of Quincy Center.”

City Realty Group plans to continue investing in and modernizing Quincy’s downtown. However, it’s important to CRG that they connect with the communities they invest in.

“Thank you all for inviting us into the city. We feel a part of it now. Our nonprofit City Kids is looking to do more in the city,” Whalen told the gathered guests. “If you have programs that are focused on kids and learning please get in touch with us. We’d love to pick that up because we feel when we do business, we want to give back. That’s part of how we approach life and business.”
