RI-GBC begins March fundraising campaign

The RI Green Building Council is looking to raise $30,000 of capital that will allow it to continue offering education and training programs, outreach to community groups and schools, advocacy related to strengthening the green economy and its signature Virtual Green Marketplace portal. In the spirit of March Madness, Connie McGreavy, founder and executive director, is executing a full court press with the goal of raising the funds in 30 days. "Our constituent groups are clamoring for information and services to help them implement green technology 'yesterday', not only to cut costs and save money but to be stewards of the environment", McGreavy said. As the Ocean State's primary information source for green building, the organization has been deluged with requests. To keep up with demand, the young chapter's goal is to scale up to a 3-5 person organization, increase volunteerism and grow financial capacity. "Basically, a group of founding members has taken the ball and we are running hard and fast with it", said McGreavy. The typical target audience is a LEED Accredited Professional and others who make their living in the design/build sector. However, because of the economy, this industry is challenged, necessitating outreach to owners of green buildings, other corporate leaders and sustainably-minded individuals who relate to the cause and are better positioned to invest in the chapter. The primary mission of the RI Green Building Council, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is to transform the way buildings are designed, built and operated in order to promote environmentally responsible, healthy and durable communities that protect the state's cultural heritage and quality of life.
