NeighborWorks expands partnership with NEI General Contracting in 2022

Boston, MA NeighborWorks Housing Solutions (NHS), one of the leading housing service providers in southern Massachusetts, has formed a strong partnership with NEI General Contracting for the past few years. In 2022 the partnership continued with the groundbreaking of a 72-unit development in Holbrook for seniors. This project will expand the amount of affordable housing available for seniors in the region and will help many stay in their local communities with their services and resources close by. NEI is managing the construction and contracting services.

NEI was the general contractor for The Sycamore on Main, a 48-unit development in downtown Brockton. In addition to creating more housing, it also created a space for Brockton Beer Works – the first minority-owned, woman-owned brewery from Brockton. NEI and NHS plan to partner on future housing developments that will add hundreds of affordable and workforce housing to communities throughout the region, leveraging existing community amenities such as public transportation, to build efficient high-quality housing in opportunity-rich communities.

In the spring 2023 NHS and NEI will partner on a new development in Brockton. This project will consist of the new construction of 94 workforce housing apartments across the street from the Campello Commuter Rail Station. Combining housing and rail transportation expands access and opportunities to residents and the community.

“Our partnership with NHS is a natural fit,” said Josef Rettman, president of NEI. “The work that our organizations do in the community related to housing is only enhanced when we are able to work together. We are looking forward to continuing to build high quality workforce and affordable housing that helps to lift communities up and has a positive impact on future generations.”

The partnership was deepened even further with NEI General Contracting joining NHS to support the organization’s major fundraiser, the Opening Doors Changing Lives gala, which was held on Thursday, November 3rd, at the Granite Links Golf Course in Quincy. The event featured cocktails, games, auctions, dinner, and a compelling program. The event also featured opportunities for guests to learn more about the partnership between NHS and NEI through a special QR code that linked to a short video.

“We recognize the importance of having strong partnerships with the business community, and our relationship with NEI continues to grow because of what we are able to do together,” said Robert Corley, CEO of NHS.

“NEI has been recognized for its corporate citizenship as one of the top charitable contributors to Massachusetts nonprofits. We couldn’t ask for a more committed partner as we continue to add much needed housing and resources in our community.”

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
