JGE Architecture + Design hires Zupcu as director of interior design

Cristina Zupcu

Boston, MA JGE Architecture + Design (JGE), a 100% minority-owned architecture and design firm with a comprehensive portfolio comprised of multifamily housing, mixed-use development, life sciences, commercial, k-12, and university projects, has hired Cristina Zupcu as its director of interior design. Zupcu joins the team from the Cambridge Innovation Center, where she previously served as interior design lead.

With over 15 years of experience, Zupcu comes with a comprehensive background of professional practice, designing and overseeing interior environments for award-winning corporate, residential, life science, retail, and hospitality projects. With Zupcu’s expertise, she will strengthen and expand JGE’s Interior Design services for both new and existing clients.

Raised in Romania, Zupcu learned from a young age the profound impact that thoughtfully designed environments can have on our lives. After moving to New York at 12, she experienced the vibrant contrast between European and American culture, which continues to inform her work, shaping a unique design perspective that merges the best of both worlds.

“As we continue to grow, it is imperative to find the personnel necessary to take our interior design capabilities to the next level,” said Jonathan Garland, president and founder of JGE. “We share Cristina’s outlook that interior design is crucial to the success of any renovation or new construction project. A well-designed interior has the power to not only enhance the value, appeal, and comfort of a space, but also boost productivity, attract new business, and most importantly increase quality of life.”

Before JGE, Zupcu led projects ranging from small renovations to 100,000-plus s/f complex projects at the Cambridge Innovation Center. Her proficiency in guiding projects from concept to completion through strong communication, time management, and coordination will be integral to her new position as director of interior design. Zupcu brings her expertise, interpersonal skills, and passion for design to reflect her clients’ unique services and ethos through interior design.

“Joining this dynamic firm as the Director of Interior Design presents an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a talented team of architects and designers,” said Zupcu. “Design, to me, is far more than crafting beautiful and functional spaces; it’s a reflection of our identities and the stories we wish to tell. Together, we will push the boundaries of design to deliver exceptional results that enhance the lives of those who interact with our work.”

Recently completed projects by JGE include 566 Columbus Ave. Residences in Boston’s South End, 1463 Dorchester Ave. in Dorchester, Nevins Hill Residences in Brighton, and 1-17 Edgerly Place and 130-134 Arlington St. in Boston’s Bay Village.
