Candice Morse, Thayer & Assoc. Candice Morse, Thayer & Assoc.

It is truly an honor to serve the Boston Chapter members this year. Members’ feedback about the meeting locations, seminar topics, course offerings and networking events is encouraged and welcomed. We hope you enjoy some of the exciting new venues and events we have planned throughout the year.

The IREM Boston Chapter #4 held its annual Past President’s Breakfast/Economic Forecast Meeting at the Tewksbury Country Club on January 7. The professional panel of speakers included George Carroll, senior vice president of Boston Private Bank; Jason Weissman, founder & senior partner of Boston Realty Advisors; and Barry Zimmerman and Michael Hertz CLTC of the Bulfinch Group.

The IREM National president, Christopher Mellen, was in attendance to swear in 9 new ARM members and 2 new CPM members. We are extremely proud of our new inductees and continue to support the IREM National mentoring initiative and will focus our efforts to encourage new ARM members to continue on the track to receiving their CPM designation.

The Boston Chapter has course offerings throughout the year that include all of the required courses to achieve the CPM designation. The dedication and commitment to the education and advancement of Real Estate professionals shown by the IREM course instructors is unmatched.

The Executive Board is currently planning for a tri-state regional conference with the Boston, Connecticut, and Rhode Island Chapters to take place on September 22, at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton, Conn. Attendees will enjoy a continental breakfast, lunch, a vendor tradeshow and four breakout sessions including: disaster planning, social media, branding for business, security training. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from the IREM National president and keynote speaker, Christopher Mellen. We hope the Boston Chapter members take advantage of this wonderful event. It will close with a cocktail reception and networking from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. Please watch for important information on this event.

The Friends of IREM/IP Committee is hard at work planning great networking events for the members this year including a Spirit of Boston networking event, an IREM outing to the Red Sox in June, a fun family day at Kimball Farms in July, and the 2nd annual “IREM Crawl for a Cause Event” in October. Please also watch for information on the Boston Chapter’s first “Presidential Gala” event to take place in November at the Top of the Hub to honor the Chapter’s first National president, Mellen.

Additionally, the Chapter plans to continue with its Northern Expansion efforts and will host a tour of the New Hampshire State House in May as well as a networking event in Portland, Maine also in May.

Immediate upcoming events include the IREM annual family ski event at Loon Mountain on February 5, and a wine tasting and networking event at Granite Links Golf Club on February 24. We are very happy to report the Wine Tasting Dinner is SOLD OUT! The Chapter thanks the Flynn Law Group for sponsoring this great event.

I would like to thank all of our members and the volunteers serving on the Boston Chapter executive board and committees for your continued support of the Chapter. We would not have one of the leading Chapters in the country without you. Your continued support in 2016 and in the years to follow is truly appreciated.

For more information on the Chapter’s planned events in 2016, please contact Kelley Hannon at the Boston Chapter office at 617-436-7565 or via email at iremboston@iremboston.com.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
