Gilbane Building receives CMAA achievement award

Gilbane Building Co. was recently awarded a CMAA Project Achievement Award in the Renovation/Modernization Category for the South Station CVS / Improvement Work. The CMAA Project Achievement Award recognizes projects that demonstrate exemplary use of construction management techniques and services and are evaluated during a competitive review process. The awards committee is composed of owners and professional construction managers. The committee considers outcomes, overall management, safety, quality management, cost management, schedule management, complexity, innovation and creativity, and customer satisfaction as the basis for the award. "It is no easy feat executing work and maintaining the highest level of safety in the second largest transportation hub in New England. Nearly 130,000-plus commuters pass through South Station on a daily basis," said Ryan Hutchins, senior vice president and business unit leader for Gilbane's New England region. "Although it was a challenging project, it was a rewarding one in that the entire team worked collaboratively to ensure the safety of the public, exceed the owner's expectations and overcome any complexities or challenges." Representatives from CVS, Equity Office Properties, Gilbane, Dyer Brown Associates, BKA Architects, accepted the award at the 21st Annual New England Chapter CMAA awards banquet where Boston mayor Marty Walsh honored award recipients. Gilbane was also recognized for its role as construction manager on the Essex North Shore Technical and Agricultural School in Danvers, Mass. as submitted by PMA Consultants.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
