City of Warwick celebrates opening of Ortho Rhode Island

Last month, we celebrated the grand opening of Ortho Rhode Island’s new flagship building at 300 Crossings Blvd., constructed within a six-acre parcel of the Crowne Plaza Hotel property. The 66,000 s/f facility joins Davol, Inc., a leader in the medical device and technology industry headquartered on the property, creating a bio-medical campus conveniently and centrally located along I-95.

Ortho Rhode Island was created five years ago with the consolidation of Foundry Orthopedics, South County Orthopedics and West Bay Orthopedics. The independent practice offers a number of services, including orthopedic specialties in sports medicine, hip, knee, hand/wrist, shoulder, spine, foot/ankle, elbow, and pediatrics. More than 40 providers and over 30 therapists and athletic trainers offer a personal approach with a focus on commitment to education, innovative technology, cost-effective services, quality, and patient satisfaction.

Calspan Development and Construction secured financing and managed construction of the $33 million project, which created an estimated 125 construction jobs. Ortho Rhode Island said the project will also bring over 275 permanent bio-medical jobs, including up to ten new providers, and an annual payroll of roughly $30 million to the campus. The goal of the project, according to Ortho RI, is to bring “all phases of world-class orthopedic care under one roof, providing a safe, state-of-the-art patient experience and seamless continuity of care.”

The new flagship building is now home to its Warwick and East Greenwich offices, and is in addition to their locations in Westerly, South Kingstown, and Providence. The facility was designed with input from patients and staff, resulting in a building with lots of natural light and more effective patient flow to reduce wait times as well as an abundance of free parking, outdoor walking space and attractive terraces.

The first floor of the facility features Ortho RI Express injury care, physical and occupational therapy, Ortho RI Biologics, and MRI services, allowing patients with brief appointments to come and go without having to use elevators or stairs. The second floor houses orthopedic and podiatric office space and exam rooms, divided into four pod areas, each with their own digital X-ray equipment. On the third floor is the Ortho RI Surgery Center, featuring eight operating rooms and two procedure rooms.

Michael Bradley, Ortho RI’s president and CEO, said the project is “an exciting advancement for Rhode Island in terms of musculoskeletal care – through patient-focused care, innovation, and technology, this campus will provide a one-of-a-kind patients experience, with easy access to the full spectrum of orthopedic care in one location.”

The new campus is also an exciting advancement for Warwick’s medical and business community. We congratulate Ortho Rhode Island and its patients on this new development and wish them great success in their new home.
