A.J. Martini recognized for excellence ABC of Mass.

A.J. Martini, Inc. was the recipient of a second place Excellence in Construction Award from the Mass. Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Martini's award in the annual statewide competition is in the "Other General Construction" category for its expansion of Newton Cemetery's Walnut Court. Martini is one of only 13 contractors selected as recipients of ABC's 2012 Excellence in Construction Awards. "Martini's work represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Mass. ABC president Greg Beeman."They should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry." The project required intricate detail required throughout both the interior and exterior, including limestone columns, frieze and architrave. It included a three-piece fountain constructed of polished granite and terrazzo flooring to match existing flooring throughout the columbarium. Stirling Brown Architects, Inc. was recognized along with A.J. Martini as part of the project team. The award winners were determined by an independent panel of expert judges based on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, safety and other considerations. The judges were Domenic D'Eramo of Tetra Tech Rizzo; Russel Feldman of TBA Architects, Inc.; Leslie Haines of Parsons; George Khouri of George J. Khouri & Associates and Vernon Woodworth of AKF Group LLC.
