Zuluaga joins ZDS Architecture as business development director

Providence, RI ZDS Architecture & Interior Design has bolstered its team, adding Monika Zuluaga as business development director. Zuluaga, who has deep experience in the field of hospitality and tourism, will lead the firm’s growth efforts in support of an industry expected to continue evolving in a post-COVID world.

“Monika is a tremendous addition to the ZDS team, and more importantly, an invaluable source of expertise for our clients across the hospitality sector,” said Eric Zuena, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, managing principal of ZDS.

“In a predominantly male-dominated field, Monika’s résumé speaks for itself, from working with iconic restaurants and startups, to prestigious hotels and exciting new brands.”

A native Rhode Islander, Zuluaga comes to ZDS after nearly a decade with the R.I. Hospitality Association and having served as its vice president of membership and marketing. Highly skilled in creating and implementing strategic plans, and driving business growth, Zuluaga is tasked with working with clients to hone their creative vision, and assess and address industry challenges, including those brought about as a result of the ongoing pandemic. She has worked with the country’s National Restaurant Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

“There is perhaps no industry that’s been more impacted by the current state of our world than hospitality and tourism, and likely no industry more in need of unique solutions to help it move forward and thrive,” said Zuluaga. “I am beyond excited to have this opportunity to broaden the work I am so passionate about.”

A full service architectural and interior design firm that specializes in the hospitality and commercial sectors, ZDS’ influence can be found in many projects, including Foxwoods Resort Casino, Marriott and Hilton hotels, Topgolf sports entertainment, Newport’s north end development, and the redevelopment of Providence’s I-195 waterfront land.

Zuluaga received a degree in International Business from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and holds a certificate from the Institute of Organization Management, a four-year executive program offered by the United States Chamber of Commerce.
