The Architectural Team earns recognition for three projects

The Architectural Team, an architectural design and master planning firm, recently earned recognition for three of its multi-family residential projects. The developments represent the firm's areas of specialty: adaptive reuse, historic preservation, sustainable design, urban renewal and affordable housing. A portfolio selected as a finalist in Affordable Housing Finance magazine's Reader's Choice Awards includes three of the firm's conversion/preservation designs. Entered for consideration by the Boston-based non-profit Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), the Boston/Cape Cod/Hudson portfolio includes The Architectural Team's Franklin Sq. House, Kenmore Abbey, and Blackstone Apartments. Readers selected the portfolio as one of 34 finalists from 140 entries. In addition to the affordable housing facet of the projects, both Franklin Sq. and Kenmore Abbey are historically significant buildings that The Architectural Team's designers first preserved and converted to new uses more than 30 years ago. The conversion to housing units marks the second generation adaptation of these projects Blackstone is also unique in that it stands as an example of transit-oriented urban development, made possible by the project's location -- in the heart of the Mass. General Hospital area, near downtown and surrounded by bus and train access -- and The Architectural Team's conversion of the structure to a multi-family residence.
