Szostkowski named principal and director of Symmes Maini & McKee Associates' higher education studio

As part of a continuing commitment to meet the evolving needs of higher education clients, Symmes Maini & McKee Associates (SMMA) appointed Ted Szostkowski, AIA as principal and director of the firm's higher education studio. An architect and a past president of Kallmann McKinnell & Wood Architects, Szostkowski will provide design and strategic leadership, planning and guidance for SMMA's university clients. His nearly three decades of experience in higher education design includes a range of academic and student life buildings for institutions including Harvard, Yale, Princeton University, Ohio State, and Georgetown. "Ted has devoted his career to education and educational environments, and his ability to work in partnership with university clients is based on an intimate knowledge of their needs, challenges and business issues," said Ara Krafian, PE, CEO and president of SMMA. Szostkowski began his career as a teacher, starting with service in the Urban Teacher Corps in Chicago. He earned a Master of Architecture degree from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects, with professional registration in Mass. and in NCARB. He has served as both instructor and critic at the Boston Architectural College, and as an architectural studio and thesis critic at MIT, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Roger Williams University and the University of Colorado.
