“Superman” Building added to America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places

Providence, RI The National Trust for Historic Preservation has added the Industrial Trust Building to America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. Built in 1928, the tallest building in Rhode Island was the backdrop of a press conference at Burnside Park where advocates made the announcement and spoke to the importance of creative thinking, partnerships and resources to bringing new life to this “Superman” building.

Through their staff and national networks, the National Trust for Historic Preservation will bring legal assistance, grassroots advocacy advice, national press coverage, and publicity in their Preservation Magazine to the campaign to save the Industrial Trust Building. The Providence Preservation Society will partner with the National Trust to keep the campaign moving forward.

Preserve Rhode Island has fought for the reinstatement of the state historic tax credit that would be instrumental in redeveloping historic properties, small and large, like the Industrial Trust Building. The economic impact study shows the benefits these tax credits have brought to Rhode Island and they’ll continue to fight for incentives like these that can help save the Industrial Trust Building.
