Shawmut Design & Construction and Anmahian Winton's Brown University project earns LEED Gold

Anmahian Winton Architects and Shawmut Design & Construction's renovation of Brown University's Rhode Island Hall, 60 George St., has earned the project U.S. Green Buliding Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. This is Brown's first LEED Gold certification. The $12 million renovation of the Greek Revival style structure was completed in the fall of 2009. The 15,000 s/f facility, originally constructed in the 1840, was completely gutted and reconfigured to serve as the permanent home for the Artemis A.W. and Martha Sharp Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World. Natural light is used throughout the building with skylights, floor openings, and shifting spaces. Key design features include 50 seat classroom, mezzanine level lab, conference rooms, new faculty offices, graduate student study space and support space throughout. Anmahian Winton Archts. was the project architect. Shawmut De&C served as the construction manager.
