"Retro" theme planned for 2014 Warwick calendar

Do you have a photo that reflects the people, places, nature, and events of Warwick from long ago? If so, we'd like to hear from you. We've begun work on our annual City of Warwick calendar, and have a "retro" theme planned for 2014. Prepared by the recycling and sanitation division, the calendar is a perennial favorite with residents, who appreciate not only the photos that reflect the beauty and history of our community, but the wealth of information provided about the city's extensive recycling program. We're inviting residents and business owners with photos from the 1970s and earlier to submit them for consideration. Each month will feature a different photo, so only 12 pictures will be selected for the calendar. In order to reach a broader audience and to celebrate Warwick's rich heritage, this year, the city will also partner with the Warwick Museum of Art on the project. The Museum has agreed to promote the call for photographs by reaching out to its artists, patrons and supporters, and plans are in the works for an exhibit of all submitted photographs. More information on the exhibit will be released once details are finalized. Those with hard copies of photos are asked to submit a print, which will be scanned. Or, photos may be burned onto a CD or disc in tiff, epf or jpeg format. Photos may be emailed to: sanitation@warwickri.com. (please note that the subject line should state: calendar photo submission) or may be dropped off at or mailed to: Department of Public Works, attn: Christopher Beneduce, 925 Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI 02889, during normal business hours. The deadline to submit photos is September 15. Each submission should include a brief description, the name of the photographer, if known (and the person submitting the photo, if they are different), and location of the scene.
