President's message: It has been my honor to serve you

It has been a pleasure to serve as president of ASM during one of the greatest achievements - offering members and small businesses a cost effective alternative to health insurance options - the ASM Health Insurance Co-op. I am optimistic that the program will be a success and that the association will continue to reach significant milestones in the interest and effort of our members. We have made changes to our upcoming signature events including the annual golf tournament, moving to a new location in 2013 as well as the biennial gala, to be held in the fall of 2013. These changes are indicative of ASM's commitment to move the association forward and offer new and exciting options for members. In addition to our success establishing the ASM Health Insurance Co-op, I look forward to championing several legislative initiatives over the coming months in an effort to improve the business climate of our members and subcontractors across the Commonwealth. David Cannistraro is president of the Associated Subcontractors of Mass., Boston.

Ask the Electrician: How do I prepare my commercial building for a disaster?

New England’s notorious weather – from fierce winter storms to summer squalls and fall hurricanes – can leave businesses in the dark. State legislature ends session without passing PLA bill - by Joe Camilo

Massachusetts taxpayers dodged a bullet when the state Senate didn’t take up legislation passed by the House in the waning moments of the legislative session that would have made it easier for municipalities and state agencies to use union-only project labor agreements (PLAs) on construction projects.
