New Hampshire CIBOR Oct. 2023 president’s message - by Matthew Bacon

Matthew Bacon

Have you ever jumped the gun and had to do a re-run? Well, one of our members was just recognized for an even greater award than reported a couple of months ago, as Chris Norwood was just honored with the 2023 NHAR Realtor of the Year Award. This well-deserved recognition of the previously listed service and accomplishments Chris continues in daily, is indicative of how much impact those in our small board can have. To avoid too much repetition, I’ll sum it up that his constant efforts as chair of the Public Policy Committee bring him from the State House to Zoom meetings to local Realtor boards incessantly, and he still does many more things professionally and in service to our community. His example epitomizes Realtor ideals. Congratulations again Chris, and thank you!

On August 3rd, the third annual NH CIBOR Summer Mixer was held at Birchwood Vineyards in Derry, a perennial sponsor of this event. It was a great success, with thousands raised and relationships fostered between many professionals. This year, the DeStefano Barrett Legacy Award was presented to Doug Martin of Colliers International, a past president of NH CIBOR, long-time board member and contributor, community servant, and respected professional that we’re very fortunate to have. Doug represents the criteria for this award diligently, and often so quietly working hard in the background from his overseeing of the tower of toys, to his leadership in support of NH CIBOR’s mission, this award was long overdue. Congratulations and thank you Doug!

The summer mixer was started by our affiliates and Special Events Committee to provide additional fundraising support to the NH CIBOR Cares charity and the organizations it donates to every year. With the support of that committee and our members, NH CIBOR Cares has provided over 30 donations so far in 2023, with a total amount over $19,500! Recipient organizations are charities in our community that are nominated with an amount, and then vetted and voted on by the NH CIBOR Cares Board. If you know of a deserving organization, or want to donate to this great charitable wing, please visit www.nhcibor.com/advocacy/nhciborcares/.

The annual NAR NXT conference in Anaheim, CA is approaching, so for anyone interested in attending visit narnxt.realtor for more information and to register.

Finally, as we enter the fourth quarter, as our association’s leadership is nominating the next wave of volunteer leaders, we’re actively looking for new committee members and volunteers for 2024. Please carve out some time in 2024 and get involved, whether you’re new to the association or an experienced staple in our community. There are many options with varying time and expertise required, giving almost anyone a chance to be a part of this association’s continuity. It’s a great opportunity to learn, mentor others or be mentored, and grow your business all at once. Contact a board member or Allison Ropes for more information!

Matthew Bacon is the 2023 president of the N.H. Commercial Investment Board of Realtors, Bedford and is senior advisor at Anagnost Realty & Development, Manchester, N.H.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.

The industrial markets have never been stronger. What has happened is that the build out of Devens with new high-tech biotech manufacturing with housing to service these buildings serves as the connector required to really make the I-495 West market sizzle. Worcester has been the beneficiary
