Nauset Construction completes $5.7 million Acushnet Police Station - Designed by Kaestle Boos Associates

Acushnet, MA Nauset Construction is overseeing the finishing touches to the recently completed ground up construction of the new police station for the town of Acushnet. Designed by Kaestle Boos Associates, an architectural firm with significant experience in the planning and design of police and public safety facilities, the 11,000 s/f structure replaces the former police station that shared space with the school department and board of health at the historic Parting Ways Building, built in 1877.

The new facility includes separate adult and juvenile detention cells, secure booking and processing areas, administrative offices, interview rooms, a dispatch center with bullet-proof glass and walls, locker rooms, and a community/training/Emergency Operations Center room. The facility also features a garage for vehicles that are evidence in investigations and a sally port that allows for the safe delivery and receipt of detainees.

The station is located at 64 Middle Rd. adjacent to the Town’s Emergency Medical Services headquarters. Project challenges included maintaining a shared entranceway throughout construction with the EMS facility, necessitating continuous planning and coordination to ensure that emergency vehicles and personnel were not impacted during the construction process. Another project challenge involved onsite wetland protection that required Nauset to work in conjunction with the local conservation committee to preserve the area. Site work included upgrades to the underground storm water retention, as well as new sewer, water and gas connections to the street.

“We are pleased to have played a role in enhancing the Town of Acushnet’s public safety resources and infrastructure. This project nicely complements our other commercial and office building projects throughout New England,” said Nauset construction president Anthony Papantonis.

Recently passed legislation creates opportunities to meet CT’s changing energy needs - by Klein and Feinn

For decades, New England has had a summer-peaking power system, where the greatest energy use occurs on the hottest and most humid days, due to widespread use of air conditioning. But by the mid-2030s, electrification of the heating sector likely will result in a winter peak that’s higher than the summer peak.
