MassHousing has approved $390,000 in funding for the creation or preservation of affordable sober housing for men and women in Roxbury, Westfield, Holyoke, Gloucester and Lowell. The MassHousing grants, ranging from $23,672 to $90,000, will come from the Center for Community Recovery Innovations, Inc. CCRI to date has awarded more than $4 million in grants for sober housing for more than 1,000 units of substance-free housing in more than two dozen communities for men, women, families, veterans, the homeless and ex-offenders. "Affordable sober housing is an extremely valuable resource that is sorely needed across Massachusetts," said MassHousing executive director Thomas Gleason. "These grants from CCRI are a small investment compared to the immeasurable benefits they produce to the men and women who use affordable sober housing as an important stepping stone back to being healthy and productive members of society."
