Mass. Chapter of ABC Excellence in Construction Awards - Zampell Refractories

U.S.S. Constitution -Charlestown, MA U.S.S. Constitution -Charlestown, MA

Charlestown, MA The Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors congratulates Zampell Refractories, Inc. for receiving the Eagle Award at the 23rd annual Excellence in Construction Awards for their outstanding work on the scaffolding at the U.S.S. Constitution located in Charlestown, Mass.

The Eagle Award recognizes the overall excellence in project execution, craftsmanship, safety, innovative elements and challenges, and client satisfaction. Zampell Refractories took home the Eagle Award, representing the pinnacle of achievement, for its work on the scaffolding at the U.S.S. Constitution. Scaffold materials were expedited to the work site, hoisted by crane into the 30’ dry dock and installed under and around the hull of the ship. The challenge of designing a scaffold solution while the constitution was still afloat in Boston Harbor was overcome by utilizing ship drawings, dry dock sketches and photographs past and present. Without the ability to take hard measurements of the dry dock, hull, and the ship supports, the Zampell design team had to anticipate how the ship would be positioned once water was drained from the dry dock. The final positioning of strong backs and keel supports were critical to the scaffold foundation design.

Zampell is an organization that is chiefly involved with the engineering and construction of refractories, insulation, and scaffolding within the industrial sector and facilities maintenance and management within the commercial sector. It is a family-owned business that was established in 1966 and continues to grow due to its core values of safety, dedication to its employees, dedication to its customers, and quality craftsmanship. Zampell has branch offices in Massachusetts (headquarters), Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas & Oregon. Zampell also has a subsidiary, Zampell A/S with locations in Jutland and Sjælland in Denmark

The Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors is the largest construction trade association in the Commonwealth, representing some 400 local general contractor, subcontractor, and supplier and associate companies.  These companies employ more than 20,000 workers throughout Massachusetts.

New England’s notorious weather – from fierce winter storms to summer squalls and fall hurricanes – can leave businesses in the dark. While it’s impossible to prevent disasters and power outages entirely, proactive preparation can significantly minimize their impact on your commercial building.

When it comes to corporate interior spaces for both commercial and industrial projects, partnering with a design-build firm with in-house interior design services can offer clients many benefits. State legislature ends session without passing PLA bill - by Joe Camilo

Massachusetts taxpayers dodged a bullet when the state Senate didn’t take up legislation passed by the House in the waning moments of the legislative session that would have made it easier for municipalities and state agencies to use union-only project labor agreements (PLAs) on construction projects.
