JLL Construction builds EMD Serono's 14,000 s/f Sagamore Building; achieves USGBC's LEED Platinum

EMD Serono's Sagamore Building, a transformational office space built by JLL Construction, has earned LEED Platinum Certification, the highest level of certification awarded by the USGBC. The 14,000 s/f building is located on EMD's Billerica campus. Led by the EMD Serono facilities group, the team involved in the LEED submission included: JLL Construction, architect Ellenzweig, MEP engineer BR+A, structural engineer LeMessurier Consultants, LEED consultant The Green Engineer, and commissioning agent DMI. The team was recognized at a ceremony last week, and was honored by Jim Newman, chair of the board of the Mass. USGBC Chapter, as well as EMD Serono president and managing director Paris Panayiotopoulos. The construction of the Sagamore Building included the complete renovation of a former lab building on site adding a mezzanine level, multiple stairways, and significant system and building upgrades. It offers a biopharmaceutical working environment where research and development project teams can collaborate, communicate and share knowledge in the pursuit of new therapies for patients with unmet medical needs around the world. The JLL Const. team was: managing director Peter Stankiewicz, project executive Larry Carpenter, superintendent Dan Browne and estimator Greg Steele. JLL Const. offers services as a construction manager, general contractor and design/builder. JLL Const. delivers construction solutions to an extensive roster of life sciences, higher education, government, corporate, industrial, technology, hospitality, and residential/retail clients.
