IREM Boston holds annual award banquet November 1st at the Seaport World Trade Center

The Institute of Real Estate Management Boston Chapter held its annual award banquet on November 1st at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. Over 210 IREM members and friends gathered to honor those who have worked to make IREM and the real-estate industry a success. James Evans CPM, The IREM National president was the key note speaker for the evening. One of the highlight of the event was a speech presented by Harold Brown, CEO of The Hamilton Company who is Boston's largest landlord and recipient of the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award. A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to the charity Home for Our Troops. Additionally IREM presented its annual Landscape Contest awards. Below is a full list of award recipients, Lifetime achievement Award: Harold Brown, The Hamilton Co. Business/Professional Background: Chairman and CEO of The Hamilton Co., 39 Brighton Ave., Allston, Mass. Treasurer and major stockholder of New England Realty Associates Limited Partnership. Majority owner/operator of approximately 5,500 apartment units in New England and 3.5 million s/f of commercial space. Current and Past Professional Affiliations: Director of National Rehabilitation Association, Washington, DC; Landlord representative, Boston Rent Board; vice chairman, State College Building Authority; Lecturer for Apartment Management Institute on Finance and Building Operations; chairman, Wedge stone Advisory Corporation, a public REIT; chairman, University Bank & Trust Company; chairman Northeastern Mortgage Company; Boston Real Estate Board; Member Advisory Board, MIT Center Real Estate Development. Licensed Massachusetts real estate broker. Vice president and general sales manager of Walworth Valve Company, New York, NY. Factories in Massachusetts, Texas, California and Pennsylvania. Annual sales over $870 million. Vice president and general manager of Metallurgical Associates, consulting firm of MIT professors. Solved marketing and engineering problems for large corporations. Lectured nationally on marketing and engineering problems. Published extensive articles regarding the same in trade journals. Bachelor of science in Engineering; Graduated 1947. IREM 2012 National President - James A. Evans, CPM® President Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Evans is the 2012 president of IREM and a senior executive with two Grand Blanc, MI-area companies. He is president and CEO of Bruce G. Pollock & Associates, Inc., Realtors, AMO, responsible for the commercial, residential and property management divisions of the company. He is also president and CEO of KEB Investments, a real estate development company, with responsibility for acquiring, leasing and managing all company properties. Evans earned IREM's Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation in 1998 and has been active in the organization ever since then. He has held numerous positions with IREM's Michigan Chapter No. 5, serving as chapter president in 2004. At the national level, he has been a regional vice president and a member of several committees, including the legislative and public policy committee, the asset management committee, Success Series 2007 advisory board and the income/expense analysis committee and advisory board. In addition, he currently serves on IREM's executive committee. Evans has long been active in civic and community affairs. He has served as a member of the Grand Blanc Community Fund and was a board member of the Genesys Health Foundation, which is responsible for generating and administering all charitable gifts for Genesys Health System, one of the largest and most comprehensive health systems in mid-Michigan. He also has been active in organizations including Vision 20/20, a community development organization in Genesee County, MI, and Transition House, which provides substance abuse treatment in and around the Flint, MI area. CPM of the Year - David Barrett, CPM, ARM Barrett, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, ARM, CPMC, is the director of operations for Crowninshield Management Corp. in Peabody Mass. Barrett has 20 years experience in property management and facilities management. Barrett holds an oil burner technician's license in Mass., OSHA 10 and 30 certificates, is a certified pool operator, certified lead renovator, and has obtained dozens of trade certificates from technical institutes as well as holding several management designations from the Community Association Institute (CAI) and The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM.) Barrett serves as vice president of IREM and serves on the legislative action committee for the Community Association Institute (CAI). Barrett instructed the problem solving section of the ABC's course and has been a guest speaker at round table lectures for both IREM and CAI. He has also written numerous articles for Condo Media and Condo Management magazine and has been interviewed numerous times for New England Condominium magazine. Barrett has received several awards for his work in the real-estate management industry. ARM of the Year - Colleen Costa, CPM, ARM Costa, CPMÒ, ARM is a property manager for Bay Management in Weymouth, Mass. Costa has 25 years experience in residential, commercial and condominium management. Costa attended Quincy College and has a certificate in real estate studies from Boston University. Colleen holds a Mass. real estate license and is a notary public. Costa serves as treasurer of the Boston Chapter of IREM, chair of ARM committee for IREM Boston. Member of IREM national credentialing committee, and member IREM National adversity committee. CPM Candidate of the Year—Kevin Sullivan, CPMC Sullivan received his bachelor of arts degree from Norwich University where he majored in criminal justice. He has dedicated 20 years of his career to the management and marketing of commercial, condominium, residential and affordable real estate. Prior to joining the Federal Management team, Sullivan managed several residential and affordable properties in the Boston area for over nine years serving as a site property manager. From 2001-2007, Sullivan was employed by Mass Housing, as a senior asset manager working in the HUD contract administration portfolio, where he was responsible for the oversight of over 40 HUD affordable properties in Massachusetts. Since 2007, Sullivan has been employed by Federal Management as a senior property manager. His responsibilities in this position include the supervision of over 800 hundred affordable units and a large commercial portfolio located in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has been successful in establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with Local, State and Federal agencies. As senior property manager -Fresh Pond Apartments was the recipient of the 2010 "Communities of Quality" NEAHMA winner-for Exemplary Family Property. Kevin also serves as a member of the Federal Management's "GREEN TEAM," where he is responsible for the coordination of the company's energy sustainability Initiatives. Sullivan has achieved several designations from NCHM). He is a licensed real estate broker in both Mass. and Conn. Sullivan is also active in IREM)where he earned his ARM (Accredited Residential Manager) designation in 2009, and is currently a Certified Property Manager (CPM) Candidate. * Student of the Year - Warren Lizio, ARM, CPMC As a regional manager for the Simon Companies LLP, Lizio oversees a portfolio of apartment communities in Mass. and Rhode Island, with approximately $8 million in rehabilitations slated over 4 years. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and Boston University's real estate program. Warren comes from a family in real estate and is an active member of The Boston Chapter's Legislative Committee. . * AMO Company of the Year - Federal Management Company The Schochet Companies, comprised of JRS Equities, Schochet Associates and Federal Management, are a full service real estate development and Management Company founded by Jay R. During his two-year term, he has oversight for the activities of IREM chapters in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Bob is a Regional Director with Trinity Management LLC, responsible for the Residential property management operations for a portfolio of apartment communities in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. He has 25 years of diverse industry experience and has held a wide range of real estate management positions. His expertise is in managing multi-family communities. Bob has long been active in IREM at the local level and served in 2009 and 2010 as president of IREM's Greater Rhode Island Chapter No. 88. Bob was the recipient of the CPM of the year award from The Greater Rhode Island Chapter # 88 in 2011. He also has served on several IREM committees at both the local and national level. Serving as Vice Chairman of IREM's National Education Committee in 2011, an education committee member since 2007. Bob also sits on the Zoning Board of Review for the town of Richmond, Rhode Island since 2009, and has recently been appointed to The Rhode Island State Housing Appeals Board. * Friend of the Year - Rich Piltch In 1987, Rich Piltch left the world of International Sales and founded ARS Restoration Specialists with two people working out of a basement. ARS, from its inception, has had a reputation as leader in delivering superior customer service and consistent quality work. In 2012, ARS celebrated 25 years in business as well as the opening of its 7th location, proudly serving the entire New England area.
