Cleaner & Greener Event Certification: IFMA's World Workplace 2009 Conference & Expo is committed to achieving certification as a Leonardo Academy Cleaner and Greener event. Show management is working to offset 100% of the emissions associated with IFMA's World Workplace, and you can help. Those who would like to offset their carbon footprint may check the $20 donation on their registration form. Your $20 donation purchases enough emissions reductions to offset the average emissions caused by one attendee's travel, lodging, meals and event activities by 200%. The monetary donations received are used by the Leonardo Academy to purchase and retire renewable energy certificates (RECs) to help offset the emissions of the 2009 conference. All renewable energy certificates purchased are Green-E certified renewable energy certificates from wind energy. Offsets are reductions in emissions in one place that can be used to compensate for emissions elsewhere, and are usually denominated in tons of emission reduced or megawatt hours of renewable energy produced. By purchasing an offset, one is in essence paying someone else to reduce their emissions, and the purchaser then owns that environmental benefit.
