Milton, MA Fuller Village is collaborating with local company, FireFlower Alternative Energy, will install a 358-kW rooftop solar array across nine of its buildings on Brush Hill Rd. Deborah Felton, executive director of Fuller Village, reviewed the options for incorporating clean energy into the Fuller Village project and determined it would offer a variety of benefits. The entire Fuller Village team is eager to start producing clean, local, renewable energy. The financial compensation from state incentive programs, the electricity savings, and the reduction in their ecological footprint made going solar a no-brainer for Fuller Village.

The solar array will cover 42,224 s/f of rooftops and have a total capacity of 358 kilowatts. The project will create around 430,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. This represents roughly 35% of the electricity currently consumed on-site. According to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalency Calculator, this clean power will offset the production of over 7,700 metric tons of CO2 over the 25-year life of the system. It represents the equivalent of taking 1,630 cars off the road annually, or planting 9,060 acres of trees.

Fuller Village selected FireFlower Alternative Energy to assist in the development of its rooftop solar project because Kathleen Doyle, CEO and founder of FireFlower Alternative Energy, has extensive expertise in developing solar photovoltaics (PV), combined with over 20 years’ experience in commercial real estate. Of the Fuller Village project, Doyle said, “FireFlower Alternative Energy is excited about collaborating with Fuller Village to incorporate clean, local, renewable energy at its Milton facility. Most of our clients are delighted to learn how much sense solar investments make, in addition to the added sustainability of the facility.”

The Fuller Village solar arrays will be interconnected to the grid, generating clean power, with an estimated annual market value of over $95,000. This project will benefit from the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program, which incentivizes investment in solar for up to 20 years.

MassAmerican Energy, the installation vendor chosen for this project, is a leading, full-service solar energy provider. MassAmerican will play a key role in the design and installation of the new solar arrays at the site.

FireFlower Alternative Energy helps organizations invest in America’s energy independence. With a focus on the numbers, FireFlower invests in and develops renewable energy in the Northeast and can help site owners, commercial energy users, and the financial community collaborate to get real projects built.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.

The industrial markets have never been stronger. What has happened is that the build out of Devens with new high-tech biotech manufacturing with housing to service these buildings serves as the connector required to really make the I-495 West market sizzle. Worcester has been the beneficiary
