Fandetti and Forsythe's conversion of the Kendall Hotel completed

John Sullivan Jr., Corp. recently completed a seven story, 7300 s/f addition to the Queen Ann-style Kendall Hotel located in the Kendall Sq. Originally known as Engine 7 Firehouse, the structure is the city's first and only historic hotel and is a participant in the Historic Hotels of America program. Owners, Gerald Fandetti and Charlotte Forsythe purchased the century old structure which was scheduled for demolition and, over a two year period, converted it into a 73-room, 4 one-bedroom luxury suite period hotel with such modern amenities as bathrooms with separate shower and tub areas and high speed internet connectivity. The Sullivan team, under site supervisor, Scott Southwick and project manager, Rob Johnstone worked closely with architect, Gerald Fandetti, of GNF Architects to ensure historic authenticity. Built over the existing Dock St., the seven story addition allows for traffic egress to city streets. Despite challenges such as removal of unsuitable soils and city traffic during construction, the team was able to complete the project on time.
