Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp. provide baskets full of kitchen supplies to 9 homeless families

Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp. raised over $1,300 in cash and donations to provide baskets full of kitchen supplies to nine homeless families living in a temporary shelter in Roxbury. The baskets will be delivered on September 27th, with an extra basket of supplies for the shelter, which will be undergoing a kitchen renovation later this year. The shelter provides temporary housing to single mothers and their children who are facing challenges including living with HIV/AIDS and other medical complications, poverty, recovering from substance use and surviving domestic violence. Through counseling and support services at the shelter the families are able to gain stability and learn basic life skills with most moving out of the shelter within 8-10 months "I have the highest respect for each parent who is willing to accept help to begin the change from a life that was shattered to facing the future with confidence and hope," said sister Mary Farren, the shelters director. "It takes much inner strength and trust on their part and is always done for love of their kids." After volunteering to paint some bedrooms in the shelter earlier this spring, the staff at Fairway's Needham branch felt compelled to continue to provide support to the families at the shelter in a variety of ways throughout the year. Donations have come from clients as well as staff and each basket includes kitchen starter items such as plates, glasses, pans, paper goods, storage and cleaning supplies, silverware and towels. "We were so moved by the determination of the moms who are working hard to provide a better life for their children, and the commitment of the staff and volunteers at the shelter," said Amy Tierce, regional vice president for Fairway Independent Mortgage. "We are excited to be able to offer our support to these families. Helping them with basic supplies for their new homes is just one of the ways we are planning to be involved over the coming year." The shelter provides temporary housing as well as respite for mothers and children facing major challenges and looking for an opportunity to rebuild their lives as they transition into permanent homes of their own. Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
