Davenport Building Co. and South Shore Living to reveal "Idea Home"

Davenport Building Co. and South Shore Living magazine have teamed up to create a show home filled with inspiration and ideas for local homeowners. The 2012 South Shore Living Idea Home, recently completed, will be open for free public tours on October 13th and 14th. The 3,000 s/f show home is the brainchild of DeWitt Davenport, CEO of Davenport. The home is located in Kingsbury Hollow, a conservation community under development by Davenport, which is adjacent to several A.D. Makepeace cranberry bogs. The four-bedroom, two and a half bath home features state-of-the-art building materials, design concepts and landscape elements, many with a high-tech or eco-friendly focus. Located among acres of pine-forested conservation land and overlooking working cranberry bogs, Kingsbury Hollow was developed to take full advantage of the natural landscape. It boasts underground utilities, meandering walking trails, a two-acre neighborhood park with a gazebo, and custom homes built with the latest in maintenance-free materials. The Idea Home was conceived to highlight trends in the home building and design industry while showcasing the strengths and expertise of local companies. Among the partners participating in the project are A.J. Tomasi Nurseries, Audio Video Intelligence, Barcellos Lighting & Design, Calorique Radiant Heating, Cape Cod Comfort Solutions, Cape Cod Insulation, Ethan Allen, Expert Closets, George Washing Toma TV & Appliance, Glynn Electric, Joe Finnemore Housewright, Mid-Cape Home Centers, P.K.M. Contractors, Patriot Alarm Systems, Plymouth Fireplace, Rainfall Irrigation, Setting the Space, Shepley Wood Products, T.A.S. Painting, The Welch Company, The Woodworks and Wood Floor Specialists. According to project coordinator Beth Patkoske, marketing director for Davenport, "The Idea Home was designed to be high-end and exceptionally custom, but also family-friendly. We wanted to create a home that would provide realistic and achievable ideas for the average homeowner. It's a beautiful, energy-efficient home with high-tech elements and excellent design that will simplify a family's lifestyle." Liz Rabideau, Publisher of South Shore Living, said, "It has been very exciting to work with Davenport and the many talented vendors to make the Idea Home a reality. Documenting and gaining insight into the building and design of this beautiful home has offered our managing editor, Maria Ferri, the opportunity to give our readers exclusive information about the Idea Home and allowed them to follow along in the process." Among the many highlights in the home are: * Control4 home automation system which allows the homeowner to adjust lighting, temperature, sound system, television and more from control panels, computers, tablets or smart phones. * The Nest thermostat which continually measures temperature, humidity, light and activity, adjusting to the patterns of the homeowners for maximum comfort and energy savings. * Kitchen with Ice Stone countertops made from recycled glass and concrete; an induction cooktop which boils water faster than gas but remains cool to the touch; a downwndraft fan on the stove which retracts flush with the countertop when not in use; a pot filler, one-touch faucet, soft close cabinets and drawers. * Master bath with radiant floor heating below marble tiles, an oversized rain head shower with body sprays, underlit vanity sinks, a large jacuzzi tub and a $4,000 toilet with every feature imaginable. * Extensive custom closets and storage systems including walk-in closets, pantry and mudroom area as well as a garage workspace. * A hidden door in the living room bookcase that leads into a secret den. *Central A/C, an air purifier and a whole house dehumidifier * A satellite system to control the landscape irrigation based upon the weather in the area and custom lighting throughout the landscape design. The home will be open for free tours on October 13 and 14 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The designers, builders and partners will also be on hand to answer questions. The Idea Home is currently on the market for $649,900 through Chute & Payzant Real Estate. Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
