Diversified Project Management completes 428,000 s/f relocation for New Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital

Diversified Project Management (DPM), a Newton-based owner's representative, has completed its engagement with DCAM to facilitate the New Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital's relocation into its new, 428,000 s/f facility at 309 Belmont St. The new Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital will provide treatment for nearly half of Massachusetts' psychiatric patients requiring long-term hospitalization. DPM was contracted to schedule, coordinate and supervise the delivery of 7,500 pieces of new FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) for the newly completed, 320-bed facility, which was built adjacent to the old Worcester Psychiatric Hospital. Led by senior project planner, Eva Hamori, the DPM team worked closely with over 20 different vendors to successfully coordinate the transport of 475 types of FF&E - over more than 3 months' worth of deliveries, including patient furniture and medical equipment. The deliveries took place in two phases with several months' worth of furniture punch list activities in between. During that time, DPM also worked with the Department of Mental Health to develop and provide an asset-tagging system for all new furniture and equipment. The final phase of the project included the relocation of staff and patients from the Bryan Building, part of the former Worcester Psychiatric Hospital to the new facility. These moves took place over six weekdays and were planned so that each facility was fully functional when the patients were in residence. DCAM's Jane Wang said, "Given the complex schedule and multitude of vendors involved, not to mention the sensitivity of patient relocation, this project was by no means a small feat. DPM came equipped with a solid, documented process, enabling us to make the move to the new location seamless so the patients and staff could be accommodated without the stress of a disruptive relocation." Among the vendors with whom DPM collaborated were Sterling Movers, ABC Moving of Hudson, NH, Creative Office Pavilion, Office Resources, Adden Furniture, Claflin, Grainger, Home Depot and WB Mason.
