Cummings Properties signs lease with Sandymount Technologies for 6,948 s/f at Cummings Park

Cummings Park - Woburn, MA

Woburn, MA Beer innovator Sandymount Technologies is preparing to move its base of operations from Somerville to a 6,948 s/f facility in Cummings Park.

Using patented technology that founder and CEO Ronan McGovern developed at MIT, Sandymount develops water filtration systems that can remove up to 75% of the liquid from beer while protecting the elements that are essential to its flavor profile. The resulting concentrated product can be shipped around the world at a dramatically reduced cost.

Sandymount’s move was prompted by a major renovation at its previous building, which required all clients to vacate.

“The type and quality of space offered at Cummings Park is more appropriate for our needs than what we had in Somerville,” said McGovern. “Ultimately, it was the combination of affordability and R&D infrastructure that made this an attractive location for us.”

Sandymount’s new location at Cummings Park will situate the firm in a business community adjacent to I-95 and I-93. Other high-tech firms that relocated to the area from more urban areas within the past year include Alloplex Biotherapeutics, which came from the SmartLabs incubator in Cambridge; Root AI, formerly at Somerville’s Greentown Labs; and WuXi NextCODE Genomics USA, which moved from Kendall Sq.

“Sandymount is among the many high-tech firms that have recognized the value and convenience of the northern suburbs,” said Cummings Properties leasing director Mike Truesdale, who worked on the lease with Jason Rexinis, assistant vice president at Colliers International’s Boston office. “Just a quick drive from Boston and Cambridge, Woburn offers dramatically lower leasing rates by comparison, resulting in more money to operate your business.”

According to McGovern, Sandymount hopes to grow its staff in its new location, potentially doubling its current roster of 10 employees over the next 18 months.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
