CT Chapter of the Appraisal Institute update for 2023 - by Jacqueline Beauchaine

On December 8, 2022 the 2023 Connecticut Chapter slate of officers and directors were installed by chapter past president Linda Sepso, SRA at Casa Mia at the Hawthorne. Chapter Officers and Board of Directors are as follows:

The 2023 chapter nominating committee will begin their process for selecting candidates for the 2024 slate of chapter officers and directors and BOD vacancy within the coming months, if you have an interest in being on the chapter board of directors, please contact the chapter office.

Current opportunities to serve on chapter committees…education, candidate guidance, government relations, public relations. Members are eligible to receive CE points towards their designation CE requirements for service. Please contact the chapter office if interested. 

Connecticut Chapter Scholarships Available

Michael J. Aldieri, MAI Memorial Scholarship 
This scholarship is available to any candidate for designation of the Connecticut Chapter of the Appraisal Institute who is actively pursuing the MAI or SRA membership designation. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage knowledge, excellence and professionalism in the appraisal industry. The scholarship will award full tuition reimbursement for any required AI course offering in the designation path

Rachel Gioia, MAI Memorial Scholarship 
This scholarship is available to any minority and/or woman candidate for designation of the Connecticut Chapter of the Appraisal Institute who is active in appraising and needs financial assistance to take Appraisal Institute courses leading to the MAI or SRA membership designation. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage minorities and women candidates to pursue knowledge, excellence and professionalism in the appraisal industry. The scholarship will award full tuition reimbursement for any required AI course offering in the designation path

William Kinnard, Ph.D Memorial Scholarship 
This scholarship is available to any Appraisal Institute designated member of the Connecticut Chapter of the Appraisal Institute who wishes to expand his or her current knowledge base into an area of professional academic specialty or service through an AI “certificate of completion” for any Appraisal Institute Professional Development Program. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage knowledge, excellence and professionalism in the appraisal industry. The scholarship will award full tuition reimbursement for any required AI course offering in any one of the AI Professional Development Programs.

Invisible CT Home Features Lost in Valuation 
January 18: Synchronous/Virtual/Zoom offering: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. – 4 hours State of CT Real Estate Appraisal Commission continuing education – 20 AI points.

This Connecticut specific seminar focuses on increasing the awareness of appraisers about the value of energy efficiency in real estate transactions. This will be accomplished through providing knowledge of programs offered by the State of CT to improve energy efficiency of buildings and motivate homeowners to improve energy efficiency. Lenders are encouraged to seek information on the home’s energy efficiency to improve the competitiveness of energy efficient homes. The details of the more prevalent energy ratings and labels are reviewed. Appraisal methods and data resources are reviewed with an emphasis on the multiple listing services and alternative databases to verify the accuracy of energy and green features. An overview of the Home Energy Labeling Information exchange (HELIX), green branding and strategy, and energy efficiency and renewable energy programs available in the state of Connecticut are reviewed. The advantage the HELIX program will have on valuation is discussed.

Solar PV systems are a growing trend and a feature often overlooked. A review of the characteristics needed to understand the cost it offsets to the cost of homeownership is reviewed. The AI Residential Green and Energy Efficient Addendum page 3 is a must for appraisers, homeowners, real estate agents, and solar sales/installers to accurately describe the system and its value.

CHANGES with your 2024
CT Real Estate Appraiser License Renewals 

As mentioned in the CT Law Module, continuing education hours for your 2024 license renewal will be due by January 31, 2024. You must have 28 hours of approved continuing education credit hours including the 7 Hour National USPAP and 3 hour CT Appraisal Law Update with Supervisory/Provisional Appraiser Education Module. CE cycle start date - May 1.
