Cotti-Johnson: Who we are - by Gamble Wiseman

Gamble Wiseman

It struck me a few weeks ago that through all my writings here, I’ve never introduced or talked about the history of our company. Given how long we’ve been around, this is something you should know.

In 1944, Louis Cotti and Bill Laurence opened a sheet metal shop at the Weymouth Shipyard called Cotti-Laurence, Inc. Their primary work at the time was installing heating systems during the housing boom on the South Shore through the 1950s. In 1954, Louis bought Bill out of his portion of the company and continued to operate independently through the mid-1970s as the leading HVAC contractor in the area. Around that time, Gary Johnson bought into the company and introduced the new Cotti-Johnson to the commercial side of the business. With Gary’s background in equipment sales the company grew, supplying a variety of local industries with much needed comfort systems.

In 1984, Gary purchased the company from the retiring Louis Cotti, and continued to run the business as owner-operator until 2008 when he sold to Adam and Angelo Boccalini, the current owners, who bring over 40 years of business management experience with them. With the purchase, the Boccalinis made Kevin Main, a long-time employee of Cotti-Johnson, a minority partner. Kevin continues to leverage his 37+ years at the company as our lead estimator and design-build project lead. He also heads the commercial division with his project manager, Paul Cordeiro, a 20+ year employee.

Now, with nearly 80 years in business, our experience and expertise are unparalleled. There is nothing we haven’t seen, and not much we can’t do. Whether it be HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical work, we have you covered. When finding a quality contractor is as difficult as it is today, that says a lot.
