Bridgewater, MA Callahan Construction Managers is a full service construction management company that has been serving the region for more than 65 years. Callahan is active throughout New England and is currently expanding into Westchester County, Southern Connecticut and Northern New Jersey.

The original family business was established in 1954 by Jack and Marie Callahan and the company quickly became a trusted name in the construction industry. More than 20 family members have been involved in the business since its inception, including Callahan’s current president, Patrick Callahan.

Callahan has fostered this family culture throughout the operation of its business, from building deep relationships with its customers, to supporting the professional growth of its employees by treating everyone like family.

“The most important aspect of our business is to build relationships. We treat every client, subcontractor and employee like family. It is part of the Callahan culture and has helped contribute to our success over the years,” said Patrick Callahan, president of Callahan Construction Managers

Callahan provides a wide range of enhanced preconstruction and construction management services, and has completed a multitude of projects within the multi-family residential, senior housing, hospitality, retail, corporate office, life sciences, educational, and other market sectors. As one of the largest open shop construction firms New England, they work with a wide range of local, regional, and national customers.

Some recently completed projects of Callahan include Montaje located in Somerville’s Assembly Row, Meriel Marina Bay located in Quincy, Mass. and Post @ 200 Smith St. located in Waltham, Mass.

“Callahan’s performance exceeded our expectations. The effectiveness and professionalism required of Callahan to achieve success on this large, complex project began well before construction started, with responsive, intelligent pre-construction services. The team’s persistence sustained from buyout through an aggressive construction schedule to a superlative effort to secure final occupancy permits from a demanding jurisdiction. A primary key to the success of the project was the integrity of Callahan’s team, from the executive level leadership to the final quality control personnel. Without the professional services of Callahan we would not have been able to achieve our aesthetic and financial goals for Montaje,” said Pat McMahon, vice president at Federal Realty Investment Trust.

Most recently, Callahan has been ranked one of the top family owned businesses by The Boston Business Journal – coming in at number 8, as well as one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts in the 11th annual employee-based survey from The Boston Globe. Top Places to Work recognizes the most admired workplaces in the state as voted on by the people who know them the best–their employees. Callahan was ranked number 33 in the medium company size category.

As one of the region’s most long standing family-run construction management companies, Callahan also recognizes the importance of building towards the future, which is why Callahan created their Constructing Communities program. Callahan is committed to supporting the local economy and hiring local. Each project Callahan undertakes is another opportunity to invest in the local community and partner with various community stakeholders. Callahan engages in community outreach efforts such as buying local, training/work programs with local schools, volunteering with local nonprofits and charities and sponsoring community events. The Constructing Communities program reflects the family culture of Callahan and strives to support the local economy, inspire young people poised to become the next great engineer, architect or builder, and serve as a positive partner during and long after construction is complete.

Callahan has partnered with Quincy High School as part of its Constructing Communities initiative, which kicked off with site visits to two of Quincy’s most dynamic new projects, Meriel Marina Bay and Elevation at Crown Colony.

“Callahan considers it a privilege to have the opportunity to instill our passion for this industry within the next generation workforce,” said Patrick Callahan. “We’ve crafted this unique program as a way to provide students with a first-hand look at the industry, but also to ultimately present them with direct pathways to rewarding, long-term careers.”

As part of Quincy High School’s President’s Pathway initiative, Callahan educated groups of 20-30 senior-level students about the engineering and construction industry through job shadowing, active site visits and hands-on interaction. The four Quincy High School classes involved with the program include carpentry, electrical tech, HVAC and metal fabrication.

“Quincy High School is thrilled to partner with Callahan in this program to further foster the development of our students,” said Keith Segella, executive director of career and technical education for Quincy Public Schools. “In a countless number of ways, real world work experience provides a priceless opportunity for these young minds to grow both in their personal and professional development, making these lessons so much more impactful.”

As Callahan prepares to wrap up 2018 they are looking forward to a productive 2019 with over 30 projects actively under construction and kicking-off.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.

The industrial markets have never been stronger. What has happened is that the build out of Devens with new high-tech biotech manufacturing with housing to service these buildings serves as the connector required to really make the I-495 West market sizzle. Worcester has been the beneficiary
