Coghlin Electrical continues ground-up core/shell work for WPI

Worcester, MA IBEW Local 96 signatory contractor, Coghlin Electrical Contractors, Inc., is in progress with the ground-up, core and shell electrical construction of Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s (WPI) Foisie Innovation Studio and Messenger Residence Hall project.

The new, five-story, 78,000 s/f building, located at the center of the WPI campus, will house two floors of high-tech classrooms, makerspace, and a robotics engineering lab, as well as a three-floor student residence hall.  The contemporary educational facility, designed by architectural firm, Gensler, will feature collaborative project workspace and active learning classrooms.

Coghlin Electrical and its Local 96 field crew are providing installation of the facility’s primary power and electrical distribution system, emergency power, fire alarm system, and its interior and exterior lighting and lighting control systems. At peak construction, the Coghlin team, headed by project manager Tim Hickey and foreman Joe Demango, will manage a crew of 20 Local 96 journeymen and apprentice electricians on the project. 

The contractor commenced work on the Foisie Innovation Studio and Messenger Residence Hall project in summer 2017 and the WPI project is on schedule for completion in the fall.

Coghlin Electrical is on a project team headed by general contractor, Shawmut Construction, of Boston.

A signatory contractor to IBEW Local 96, Local 103, and Local 7, and member of NECA Boston Chapter, Coghlin Electrical provides comprehensive electrical construction, telecommunications, and security services for diverse corporate, educational, healthcare, biotechnology, civic, and casino projects thoughout Massachusetts. Presently, the company is also nearing completion of work in Springfield, including a Science Building at Amherst College and is underway with the Harvard University Smith Campus Center renovation.
