City of East Providence to receive $3.37 million to help fund multipurpose community facility

East Providence, RI City of East Providence to receive $3,377,831 to help fund the building of a multipurpose community facility for our residents.

The city could receive more of an allocation depending on whether other municipalities apply for their share of the funds.

Former congressman David Cicilline had previously obtained $3 million to help support an aquatic center within our multipurpose community center.

This multipurpose community center will serve our senior and elderly population by adding to our senior center activities to include physical activities and aquatics, will help our student population with out-of-school learning programming, will help our workforce with workforce development opportunities and our youth recreational organizations will have additional space for recreational activities.

These allocations will help but the cost of building a multipurpose facility is far more than $6.3 million.

Our original concept was just an idea to start the conversation. We will need to make significant adjustments to the original concept. Our administration is committed to work with our city council to build this facility for our residents.
