Chapman creates new executive position; names Compagnone

Chapman has appointed Guy Compagnone to the newly created position of director of sustainable practices. In his new role, Compagnone will be responsible for spearheading Chapman's sustainable building and environmental initiatives. Chapman president John Hall explains that the position will have many facets, including: education of staff, partners, and subcontractors; exploration of emerging green trends; estimating and cost analysis of sustainable solutions; community outreach; and implementation of new sustainable strategies. Having a position solely dedicated to green efforts will allow Chapman to accelerate its green goals and have a more visible position in the burgeoning sustainable building marketplace. "Chapman realizes that sustainable building is a huge emerging market, and we recognize the need for a full time position to push these initiatives along," said Hall. Compagnone joined Chapman in 2007 having worked in construction his entire life. He also spent five years teaching classes in Applied Physics and Technology and Earth Sciences in the public middle and high school systems. The skills he picked up in the classroom will benefit him in his new role, he says. He also studied education at Lesley College, Geology and Environmental Sciences at Harvard extension school, and completed the Educators as Scholars program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an emphasis on climate change and technology. When Compagnone first interviewed with Chapman, he was immediately impressed with Chapman's sustainable efforts. "I came to Chapman because it is a progressive green construction firm," said Compagnone. "And I learned quickly that Chapman is a construction company with integrity, committed to sustainability for the greater benefit of all." In the time that Compagnone has been with Chapman, he has continued his education through coursework at the BAC, earned his LEED AP designation, and managed the construction on Chapman's own green Platinum LEED renovation. Hall explained that Compagnone is well suited for his new role. "He brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and experience to Chapman, and his eagerness to learn more about green practices and to develop Chapman's sustainable programs will be a great asset to our company." Compagnone is looking forward to this new role. "I am grateful and excited for this opportunity. I couldn't be more thrilled," he says. Chapman has completed the Silver LEED-certified Project Hope building in Roxbury and is currently completing its second LEED project, renovation to its headquarters in Newton, Mass. Chapman has 13 LEED AP employees, representing 25% percent of the staff.
