Burnes of HallKeen Management receives Paul Tsongas Award from Preservation Mass.

Andrew Burnes, president and CEO of HallKeen Management, was honored with the Paul E. Tsongas award from Preservation Massachusetts at their annual event held at the Fairmount Copley Plaza. The award recognizes and celebrates the efforts and accomplishments of those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to preserving the Commonwealth's historic resources. The theme for this year was Producing Preservation: Lights, Camera, Action!, honoring the people behind the scenes of preservation, whose work on the restoration of significant buildings makes the ethic of preservation a reality. As president and CEO, Burnes is responsible for all of the activities of HallKeen, including HallKeen Management, HallKeen LLC, and HallKeen's Assisted Living Portfolio. Burnes has over 25 years of acquisition, development and management experience across a broad spectrum of real estate. Burnes has led the design and restoration work on numerous preservation projects, including: revitalization of Lawton's Corner at Union and Purchase Sts. (New Bedford), adaptive reuse of the Rodman Candleworks building (New Bedford), rebuilding of Allen's Mill on Slade's Corner Road (Dartmouth), renovations of the historic Durfee Union Mills (New Bedford). Additionally, Burnes has been involved with the following projects: Austin Court & Wamsutta Communities (New Bedford), Durham Hosiery Mill (Durham, NC), East Canton Street (Boston), General Shepard Apartments (Westfield), and State St. Apartments (New Bedford). Currently, Burnes is overseeing the renovations of an abandoned wing of the Historic Ames Privilege, an old mill building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, in Chicopee. In its former glory, Ames Privilege was the site of the Ames Manufacturing Company, also known as Ames Sword Company, which produced Civil War swords and cannons. Preservation Massachusetts' highest honor is named in honor of late Senator Paul Tsongas and has been given out since 1987. Preservation Massachusetts is the statewide non-profit organization that actively promotes the preservation of buildings and landscapes as a positive force for economic development and the retention of community character.
