Bufftree completes new 4,700 s/f St. George Greek Orthodox Church
Parishioners of St. George Greek Orthodox Church celebrated the fruition of their dream of a new place to worship with the Thyanoixia, or Opening of the Doors, of the congregation's new St. George Greek Orthodox Church and Hellenic Cultural Center built by south coast-based Bufftree Building Company.
"The Bufftree Building Company has done an outstanding job for us," said George Bebis, chairman of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Building Committee. "At times it can be a challenge working with a nonprofit organization. Bufftree has always met that challenge and exceeded it with responsive, patient and professional service. Everyone at St. George Greek Orthodox Church is highly impressed with their extraordinary staff."
The official opening of the larger, handicapped-accessible church marked the completion of Phase I relocation of the church from Ashley Blvd. in New Bedford to a 6-acre site on Cross Rd,. across from the George H. Potter School. The 4,700 s/f building contains a church with a seating capacity of 160, an attached function room for 60 persons and administrative offices. Phase 2 of the project would convert this building into a function hall only and construct a more grand church to the south with a connecting link between the two.
Rescom Architectural, Inc. of Bourne was the architect for the project.
