Berry of Finegold Alexander Archts. elected secretary to Boston Society of Architects board of directors

Boston, MA Rebecca Berry AIA, principal + director of sustainable design at Finegold Alexander Architects has been elected by her peers to serve as secretary of the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) board of directors for a one-year term. Berry has served previously as co-chair of the BSA’s Women-In-Design Mentoring Sub-Committee (three years), and is a previous member of AIA Massachusetts Governmental Affairs Committee (two years).

“I am honored to be elected to this position and, as a member of the board, will seek to deepen the BSA’s ability to advocate for and promote our profession and membership. The public should understand how we help to better society in relation to sustainability and social equity, and I hope to further that cause,” said Berry.

“Finegold Alexander is extremely pleased that Rebecca’s career-long commitment to sustainability and quality design, linked to community service, has been recognized by her professional colleagues in Boston,” added Jim Alexander, senior principal, Finegold Alexander Architects.

Berry, AIA, LEED AP BD+C is a principal, director of sustainable design, and leads the higher education and municipal practice areas at Finegold Alexander Architects. She has more than 15 years of experience managing a variety of higher education, civic, and residential projects, including: Boston University’s Kilachand Hall, the Alice K. Wolf Center in Cambridge, The Royal luxury housing development in Boston, and the B’nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim Synagogue in Deerfield, Illinois. Berry is a volunteer and former Americorps member, and served as a designer and construction supervisor with Habitat for Humanity in the U.S. and abroad. She earned a BS in Art & Design, a BS in Political Science and Master of Architecture from Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she received the Alpha Rho Chi medal, a national award in recognition for service. She is a registered Architect and LEED Accredited Professional. She received the 2014 Banker + Tradesman – Women of Fire award.

The Boston Society of Architects/AIA is committed to professional development for our members, advocacy on behalf of great design, and sharing an appreciation for the built environment with the public at large. Established in 1867, the BSA today consists of more than 3,500 members and produces a diverse array of programs and publications, including ABX and ArchitectureBoston.

A chapter of the American Institute of Architects, it is a nonprofit, professional-service organization.
