Barkan renews and expands contract with Cambridge Housing Authority

Cambridge, MA Barkan Management Company, an industry leader in residential property management with 190 management contracts (29,000 units) in seven states, has renewed its contract for three apartment communities owned by the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA) and added three additional properties. Under the terms, Barkan will now provide accounting and financial services for six apartment communities owned by the CHA, a state-run authority which provides long-term rental housing and rental assistance to more than 5,500 low-income families, elders and disabled individuals.

Barkan has been providing financial and accounting services for three CHA apartment communities for more than seven years: Lyndon B. Johnson Apartments, Cambridge Affordable Presidential Apartments, and Lincoln Way Apartments. As of this month, Barkan will also provide financial and accounting services for Lancaster Street Apartments, New Temple Place, and Essex Street Management.

“Barkan is well-known for the strength of our accounting team and CHA has been impressed over the years with our efficient, cloud-based accounting system, as well as our excellent customer service,” said Jim Merski CPA, CFO of Barkan. “We use Yardi Software, the gold standard of property management and accounting software, as it allows us to stream-line and standardize our operating process and procedures. Our team is experienced at using the platform and getting clients the information they need in a quick and reliable manner.”

“While Barkan is primarily known for full-service management of condominium and co-operative communities, we are very proud of the excellent and well-deserved reputation of our Accounting Department who, under the leadership of Jim, consistently delivers the highest quality financial reporting and customer service,” said Bill DiSchino CPM, president and CEO of Barkan. “We are pleased to be retained by the CHA as we continue to grow our diverse management portfolio, which now includes full service or accounting contracts for 45 affordable communities throughout New England.”
