Avison Young awarded contract at South Station bus terminal in Boston

Avison Young has been selected by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to manage the 312,000 s/f South Station bus terminal. The Avison Young team will be led by Steve Prozinski, Avison Young principal and director of property management. "The South Station bus terminal is an important Boston transportation center," said Prozinski. "We are thrilled to be working with the MBTA and look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship not only with the MBTA, but also with the tenants and employees who keep the station running." In February, Avison Young began providing property management services for the bus terminal. These services include building-maintenance and repairs, construction supervision, tenant request services, management and administration of vendor contracts, preparation of annual operating plans and budgets, tenant relations, cash-flow management, facilities management and cost savings. Located at 700 Atlantic Ave., in the Chinatown/Leather District neighborhoods, the South Station bus terminal serves as the main gateway for inter-city buses in and out of Boston. More than 12,000 passengers pass through the bus terminal each day from the 10 inter-city bus companies that operate out of South Station. The five-story building is a mixture of glass and metallic exterior, with mainly a red-granite stone and metallic surfaced interior. The station contains a variety of amenities for passengers, including a newsstand and snack bar; three fast-food outlets: Honey Dew Donuts, D'Angelos and McDonalds; and a 220-car public parkade on the roof.
