A Message from the Publisher: Introducing Retail Trends & Development - by Joanne Connolly

Joanne Connolly, NEREJ

As your publisher of the Shopping Centers section of the New England Real Estate Journal for over fifteen years, I am excited about making changes to the section.

First, let’s begin by saying that the Shopping Centers name will be changed to Retail Trends & Development. Over the years, my editor, Jennifer Tempesta and I, have seen the changes and trends in retail, mixed-use projects and renovations of town centers. These changes are very exciting and have added so much to our communities and families in a positive way.

My goal going forward is to continue publishing all of your retail deals and acquisitions. We will be highlighting retail and mixed-use projects, and will contribute informative, up-to-date articles which will provide our readers with new, exciting trends and technology that is changing the way we look at retail!

Technology has improved so much in our progression of the retail evolution and the solutions that are available. Retailers and tenants entering into these new centers can learn from our authors about the new technology that will assist them in getting into their spaces easily and efficiently.

I will be looking forward to hearing from all of you with your new ideas, knowledge and experience in the retail evolution!

If I can be of assistance to you, or if you have any questions or suggestions for this new direction, please contact me at jconnolly@rejournal.com.

Happy shopping!

Joanne Connolly is the publisher of Retail Trends & Development for the New England Real Estate Journal, Norwell, Mass.

Placemaking and retail in 2024 - by Carol Todreas

Placemaking. That is the word for 2024. While the concept has historical precedence in urban development, it became part of our current culture in the 1960’s when urbanists started to think about cities for people, not just cars.
