2024 Women in Construction: Melissa Galgano, Hancock Associates

Melissa Galgano
Staff Engineer
Hancock Associates

Who or what inspired you to join the AEC industry? I have always liked problem solving and the creativity associated with it. I became interested in engineering and site design after a conversation with my dad. This was when I was still in high school trying to figure out what I wanted to do. He is an electrical engineer and used to design substations. We talked about what it meant to design and build the station – and who was involved. I became interested in the idea of designing the exterior layout. From there, I learned more about what site design was and how I could make it my career.

What is your favorite / most beneficial part of Women in Construction week? My favorite part of Women in Construction Week is seeing how many women are involved in this industry. It is empowering to see all the different job titles women hold, especially leadership roles, in such a male-dominated industry.
