2022 Women in Construction: Sachiko Boie, AIA, LEED AP, Associate and Project Architect at The S/L/A/M Collaborative

Sachiko Boie

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? The most notable project, expected to be completed in June 2022, is a state-of-the art, five-story, 135,111 s/f building for the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute; an adjoining four-story, 77,028 s/f building for the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing; and a 200 seat auditorium at the University of California, Irvine. I started working with HED and Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction exactly two years ago on this design build endeavor, which still has me in awe of the process and teamwork that is required to complete this project.

Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? Whether it’s the notes of appreciations from clients, repeat business offers, or the friendships built along the way – the satisfaction of a job well received is very rewarding. This is what makes me take on new challenges within this industry.
