2022 Women in Construction: Amy Samuelson, AIA, Associate Principal and Project Manager at The S/L/A/M Collaborative

Amy Samuelson

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? My most recent project is always my favorite project. I am currently managing my largest public education project, the Torrington Middle School and High School. It offers me the opportunity to work on a complicated program that will be an exciting, state-of-the-art replacement building serving today’s students and the future generations to come.

What tips or advice would you offer to other women who are considering entering the construction industry? In my nearly 30 years in the A/E/C industry, the key to my success has always been to keep learning. I have never distinguished between young women and men coming into the industry; my advice is the same: Work your hardest and be open to learning from others. Even today I continue to learn new things about the building systems and improvements to programs and ways to enhance our clients’ experience in the building.
