2022 Women in Construction: Kelly Doherty, Project Manager at Callahan Construction Managers

Kelly Doherty

Starting out in the construction business, who or what empowered you? Admitting what I don’t know and standing firm on what I do know is what keeps me empowered. I always take the opportunity to ask someone to explain something deeper if I don’t have knowledge in it. Through knowledge rises strength, so I try to continuously educate myself.

Within your firm, who has helped you succeed within the industry? How have they helped you? Tony Buckman was a superintendent early on my last project before his well-deserved promotion. We worked together on reviewing wood framing shop drawings, which at the time was new to me – I had always done steel/lgmf prior to coming to Callahan. He played a pivotal role in teaching me about all the intricacies and coordination that goes into releasing each truss and wall panel package – such as rough opening sizes, wall depth requirements for risers, truss spacing for HVAC routes, etc. I’ve since been able to pass along the knowledge and mitigate risk on other projects.
