2022 Women in Construction: Kate D’Albis, Assistant Project Manager at Haynes Construction Company

Kate D’Albis

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? My greatest professional achievement in construction was the completion of our $25 million Sound at Gateway Commons project in East Lyme, CT. This was the first multi-million dollar project that I worked on 100% from start to finish. It was very interesting to see the project go from just some drawings on a page in the estimating stage to a polished finished product and through all the various complex steps in between.

Within your firm, who has helped you succeed within the industry? How have they helped you? Within my company, there are so many wonderful people, who have strived to make me the employee I am today. I work very closely with our director of pre-construction, Eric Fogg, who has taught me more about the construction process than I learned in all my years of school. No matter how busy he is or how much he has on his plate, he will always take the time out to help me understand a new concept that I’m unfamiliar with, answer any questions or teach me something completely new.

When you’re not busy, what is your go to book or podcast to help you unwind? I love listening to audiobooks while I am driving to and from job sites and the office, especially since my current project is in Freeport, ME. Recently I have been going through a Greek Mythology phase, so I am currently listening to Circe by Madeline Miller. My all-time favorite book though is And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. I love his writing style and the story is so captivating.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
