2021 Women in Construction: Pam Corey, Associate - Construction Administrator, SLAM Collaborative

What was your greatest achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? Construction completion of the 370,000 s/f Weaver High School in Hartford, CT. This notable, $120 million renovation of the existing 45-year-old school was both complex and challenging. Due to its size and schedule, my role as construction administrator was required onsite and nearly full-time to ensure compliance with the contract documents. It was rewarding and educational to be part of this campus transformation and implementation of the designer’s concept. As a member of the construction industry for 35 years, I’m still awed by the construction process and the team’s integrated knowledge that goes into constructing these beautiful structures.

Starting out in the A/E/C business, who or what empowered you? A career in banking, led a colleague to request I manage the construction of their new home. With a family lineage in construction and bored crunching numbers, I jumped. The project was a success and I found a new, yet challenging, career path dominated by males. With the support of my community, subcontractors, and Rotary Club, I gained their respect. I’m grateful to the Club for nominating me as their first female member and later as the first female President. It shaped me as a construction professional and inspired me to form Corey Construction with my husband, lasting 25 years.
