2019 Annual Review: Wayne Jalbert of Hancock Survey Associates

What was your greatest professional accomplishment in 2019?
Our greatest professional accomplishment in 2019 was the establishment of a formal co-op relationship with UMass Lowell (UML). UML has always been a top educator for civil engineering. Since all design work begins with the 3D digital models produced by land surveyors and no design can happen without them, UML requires surveying and geomatics as part of the core curriculum. This ensures that graduates have the foundation for all types of civil design. Having sophomore and junior students participate in the co-op at Hancock’s six regional offices has been a win-win.

Students get real hands-on application of their education and Hancock has the opportunity to assess and train candidates for future full-time positions. The program has gone beyond expectations. Our hats are off to the exceptional educators and students at UML.

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
